Answers to your questions
The NCLEX-RN, or National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, is an exam administered by the State Boards of Nursing. It is designed to determine if recent nursing graduates of associate or bachelor’s nursing programs are ready and it is safe for you to begin practice as an entry-level registered nurse.
Contrary to popular belief, the NCLEX-RN is not a standardized test. It is what is referred to as a computer adaptive test meaning that the exam adapts based on your answers. In order to pass the NCLEX-RN, you must demonstrate that you have a competency level above the minimum standard. As you progress through the NCLEX-RN exam and answer correctly, you’ll be presented with increasingly more challenging questions until the NCLEX-RN algorithm is able to identify your competency level.
The number of questions you receive on the NCLEX-RN exam will depend on the NCLEX-RN algorithm’s ability to determine your competency level. You will receive between 75 and 145 questions.
Your official results will be sent to you about six weeks after you take the NCLEX-RN. In some states, you may be able to pay for a quick results service which will allow you to access your “unofficial” results two business days after taking your NCLEX-RN exam.
With the right preparation and Achieve Test Prep at your side, you will hopefully only need to take the NCLEX-RN one time. However, you may retest 45 days after your attempt of your previous exam if you do not get the results you want. Registered nursing candidates are allowed to take the NCLEX-PN up to 8 times in a calendar year depending on your state of residence.
What’s next after I pass the NCLEX-RN?
Once you pass the NCLEX-RN exam, you will be ready to obtain your registered nursing license and begin your career as a nurse, but don’t stop there. Continue learning and growing in your profession by working toward a BSN or higher degree.
Achieve provides an RN to BSN bridge program designed to fit your busy lifestyle and allow you to advance your education while you work as an RN. Discover a clear step-by-step path toward your BSN goal and receive our full support throughout your journey.
