Nursing school isn’t easy. It’s normal to struggle to balance studying with other responsibilities, and this is especially true for people who work full time and care for their families while attempting to earn a nursing degree. It’s even normal to want to give up. Let’s explore 5 reasons you should quit nursing school — and a few reasons that might make it worth it to push through an LPN to RN bridge program, CNA to RN program, or other nursing degree program

1. Nursing school doesn’t work with my schedule.

Between trying to work full time and raising your family, making it to class several times a week can seem impossible — not to mention the homework, quizzes, group projects, and all the things you have to do to achieve a good grade in each class. If you don’t have good time management skills and a solid plan it’s easy to see why scheduling might make you want to quit nursing school.

Achieve Test Prep gives you the ability to complete classes as it fits your schedule — so you can study whenever and wherever you are available. Our CLEP and DSST exam prep courses help you test out of prerequisite and general education college courses and earn credit by exam that can be transferred to the accredited school of your choice. Attend online test prep courses from the comfort of home. Receive expert support from live instructors. Connect with a community of like-minded adult students. Our prep courses fit into your life because we cut out the excessive homework, quizzes, projects and other coursework — allowing you to focus on what you need to know to pass your exam and earn credit.

2. My nursing school classes are too hard.

In nursing school, you must learn how to apply complex facts and ideas to real-world situations. This type of problem-solving doesn’t come naturally to everyone and it can feel overwhelming when you’re working to develop this skill. Even if you’re already working as a nurse, you will encounter new material and be asked to apply it in ways you haven’t done previously. Experiencing these difficulties combined with the stress of working can make you feel like you want to quit nursing school.

Achieve Test Prep offers tutoring to help ensure you understand the material and are able to pass your core nursing courses as you work to complete your LPN to RN bridge program at an accredited nursing school. Our tutors can provide one-on-one guidance and personalized instruction to help you better understand your core college course material and help you succeed in nursing school.

3. I’m so tired and overwhelmed in nursing school.

Studying in nursing school does take a significant amount of time and poor study habits can leave you feeling constantly behind and underprepared for the rigorous material. It’s also difficult to prioritize things like sleep, a healthy diet, regular exercise, and time for a hobby or activity you enjoy.

First and foremost, in order to take care of others, you MUST take care of yourself first. Neglecting your own physical, mental and emotional health is a sure way to experience burn out. Instead of throwing in the towel, consider reducing our courseload or adding in 30 minutes a day that’s just for you. The Education Advisors at Achieve can work with you to develop a study plan that you can stick to. They will also provide you with time management tips and other tools that can help you stay on track and stay motivated to continue in your program.

4. It’s not a good time for me to go to nursing school right now.

You might be thinking about quitting nursing school because there are personal obligations preventing you from focusing on your studies. This could be caring for a family member, changes in your work schedule or responsibilities, adding a new member of the family, or anything else that might take time away from your dedicated study time. Your personal life is important, and it’s not easy to know how you should move forward.

Achieve Test Prep can provide you with time management and study tips to help you study smarter, not harder. We’ll lay out a plan based on your unique needs that will clearly show you a pathway to earning your degree and becoming an RN.

5. I don’t think I’ll pass the NCLEX.

What if, after studying for years in nursing school, you come to the end of your program and you don’t pass the NCLEX-RN? According to the NLN, around 20 percent of nurses fail to pass the NCLEX on the first attempt. However, if 20 percent of first time students fail, that still means that 80 percent pass the NCLEX-RN. If you’ve made it through an LPN to RN bridge program online or in person, you should have the knowledge you need to pass, but it doesn’t hurt to have some insurance.

Achieve Test Prep offers online NCLEX-RN Exam Prep Courses that are hosted live, with real instructors. You’ll get more than 30 hours of instruction, access to hundreds of practice questions, review videos, flashcards, and other learning materials that can help ensure you succeed on test day.

The only REAL reason to quit nursing school

The only real reason you should quit nursing school is if you truly do not enjoy nursing as a profession. If you’re squeamish around bodily fluids, uncomfortable with needles, unable to feel empathy for patients, or afraid of germs — the nursing profession probably isn’t for you.

The other reasons listed above are problems that Achieve can help you solve as we work together to help you find success in your studies and your future nursing career. Don’t quit nursing school until you connect with us. We’re here to support you!
